Tongue-and-groove pliers are a type of slip-joint pliers. They are also known as water pump pliers, adjustable pliers, slippy pliers, groove-joint pliers, arc-joint pliers, Multi-Grips, tap or pipe spanners, gland pliers and Channellocks (i.e., Channellock brand pliers).
They have serrated jaws generally set 45 to 60 degrees from the handles. The lower jaw can be moved to a number of positions by sliding along a tracking section under the upper jaw. An advantage of this design is that the pliers can adjust to a number of sizes without the distance in the handle growing wider. These pliers often have long handles—commonly 9.5 to 12 inches long—for increased leverage. The weight of the tool can also vary, depending on the material used.
Both the KNIPEX Cobra® XL and XXL offer the performance and comfort of water pump pliers while being lighter in weight and having a greater gripping capacity than comparable pipe wrenches. The Cobra® XL can e.g. grip a 2“ pipe fitting and weighs 50 % less than a 2“ pipe wrench, which has a much lower gripping capacity. With its handy length of 400 mm, the Cobra® XL also fits into a plumber's tool kit. The Cobra® XXL comes along with the weight of a 2“ pipe wrench but offers a back-up gripping capacity up to 4 1/2“.

Atramentizing is a corrosion protection process in which steel is coated with phosphate using a zinc phosphate solution at 90° C (194° F).
